The Relationship between Avoidant Personality Disorder and Social Phobia

Dr Lisa Lampe is conducting research into the nature and causes of Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD). This research also aims to better understand how AvPD differs from another common type of social anxiety, Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder.

The objective is to learn more about how avoidant personality disorder and social phobia relate to each other, investigate whether there are identifiable risk factors for one condition or the other, and in the process gather evidence that will contribute to understanding about whether these are two distinct conditions, rather than variations of social phobia.

You may be eligible if you:

  • are over 18 years of age
  • can read and speak English sufficiently well to complete written questionnaires and an interview
  • have either AvPD or Social Phobia
  • have been stable on any medication for at least 4 weeks
  • do not have current alcohol or drug dependence
  • are able to come in to the CADE Clinic at Royal North Shore Hospital for an interview and to complete a computerized questionnaire

Please read the Participant Information Statement. It includes contact details for Dr Lampe should you have more questions.
